Even as the situation is gradually limping back to normalcy in Sambalpur, Odisha Director General (DG) of Police Sunil Bansal said that a close vigil is being kept and curfew restrictions will be lifted in the next day or two if the situation improves further.

After reviewing the situation with senior officials in Sambalpur, Bansal said that the curfew was clamped after some untoward incident that was reported on April 14. At present, the curfew restrictions are continuing as a precautionary measure.

"We are seeing that things are improving as restrictions were relaxed today for various examinations and we hope that things will be normal soon. We will be able to restore normalcy and curfew will be lifted in a day or two after the situation will improve further," said Bansal.

According to DGP, the consistent policy of Odisha Police is to identify those people who were involved in violence and arrest them as per law.

"There will be no leniency towards anyone. We will carry out a proper investigation and act against those involved in violence in an impartial manner as per law. I appeal to people to cooperate with police and administration to restore normalcy," Bansal added.

Sambalpur Collector, Ananya Das said, "Several exams are going on smoothly and the situation is overall peaceful. The administration is keeping a close watch on the situation. Patrolling is also being intensified."

According to Das, the decision on lifting the ban on internet services will be taken after a prior review of all aspects on daily basis.
