In view of the steep rise in the number of daily Covid-19 cases, the Odisha government has urged the Centre to provide requisite doses for carrying out the precautionary vaccination drive in the state.

In a letter to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Director of Family Welfare (Odisha) Bijay Panigrahi has placed a demand for CorBEvax vaccine for the state.

“Presently there is a rise in Covid cases in Odisha. Also there is a demand from public for precaution dose vaccination at Government CVCs,” wrote Panigrahi.

In his letter, Panigrahi has urged the Centre to provide at least 50,000 doses of CorBEvax vaccine with long expiry to the state as early as possible.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha is witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases for the past few days. The state recorded 141 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. The total active caseload in the state now stands at 731.

Odisha Public health director Niranjan Mishra said the infections are being reported from 16 districts in the State. "The positivity rate in the country is 6.9 per cent whereas it is 2.8 per cent in Odisha. Infections are being reported from 16 districts in the State,” Mishra said.

Earlier on Monday, Mishra had urged people to get tested and start treatment if they develop Covid-19 symptoms after isolating themselves.
