A couple allegedly duped over 800 investors to the tune of Rs 140 crore in Bhubaneswar. The fraud came to the fore after some investors approached the Economic Offences Wing of the Odisha Crime Branch. The accused couple is reportedly absconding.

As per reports, some investors filed a complaint against the couple identified as Sushant Nag and Laxmipriya Nag. The couple was staying in a rented house and running an agency titled Universal Gems and Om Associates.

The Nag couple tricked 853 people into investing their hard-earned money in the agency through various schemes. They allegedly managed to receive deposits worth around Rs 140 crore from the investors. The couple has not even cleared the rent.

One of the investors alleged that Sushant won investors’ confidence by showing some genuine things and promised a monthly return of seven to eight per cent depending on the amount of investment.

“In case of trading, Sushant also assured the investors of at least 7 to 8 per cent returns despite market fluctuations and risk factors. Later, he added one lucrative scheme after another to lure investors before absconding. The company is closed,” he lamented.

However, no reaction from the EOW was received.
