Palpable tension prevailed at the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Thursday after local corporators locked the office alleging misbehaviour by the CMC commissioner.

As per reports, corporators had come to office to meet CMC commissioner Nikhil Pawan Kalyan to discuss the issue of non-transfer of JEEs in-charge of different wards of the city. However, they were allegedly meted out with ill behaviour by the CMC commissioner.

Protesting this, the corporators sat on a dharna on the CMC premises after locking the office and demanded resignation or transfer of Pawan Kalyan. CMC Mayor Subhash Singh intervened and held talks with the corporators but it yielded no positive results.

"First they should change the two chief engineers. And the JEEs posted at Cuttack engineer section for last 15-20 years have to be shifted to Bhubaneswar. Implement swap mechanism so that JEEs in Bhubaneswar are shifted to Cuttack. That will give us an assurance that Cuttack civic authorities took this major responsibility of JEE section. Instead of thinking about making these changes, you will be surprised to know the kind of language being used by CMC Commissioner and Mayor," alleged Santosh Bhol, Corporator.

In response, CMC mayor Subhash Singh said, "Corporators are part of the council. They play a vital role in developmental process. We will see how we can come out of this through mutual understanding. We will discuss and sort this out."

CMC commissioner Pawan Kalyan hasn't responded to the allegations of misbehaviour.
