Over the past few days, Odisha has been abuzz with the news of ‘Shraddha’, who had accompanied Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to the Vatican City. Although the CM, in a statement in the Odisha Assembly, tried to clear the air by stating that Shraddha is his physiotherapist and was sent by his late sister Gita Mehta to take care of his physical fitness, the Opposition BJP has once again trained its guns on Naveen.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart and Leader of Opposition (LoP), Jayanarayan Mishra launched a fresh attack on the CM and brutally slammed him for trying to clear the air after his questions on Shraddha were expunged from the records of Assembly following an uproar by the ruling BJD members.

“Why did Shraddha accompany the CM only to the Vatican City and not any other country? Why was Shraddha working earlier? Has the Odisha State Health Department appointed her as the personal physiotherapist of the CM? Has her background been checked?” questioned LoP Jayanarayan Mishra.

“When I raised questions on Shraddha, the BJD leaders started an uproar and my comments were expunged. Then later, why did the CM all of a sudden try to clear the air about Shraddha in the Assembly after my comments and questions were expunged?” he further questioned.

On the other hand, Congress called the ‘Shraddha’ case an irrelevant matter and just a waste of the Assembly’s time.

“The CM has himself admitted that Shraddha has not been given any privilege or quarters by the government. These questions are put forward in the Assembly only to sensationalize the matter. Bringing such topics to the House is of very bad taste,” maintained Congress leader, Narasingha Mishra.

Speaking on the issue, BJD Chief Whip in Assembly, Prasant Muduli said, “There should be a full stop on this matter now. CM Naveen Patnaik has himself cleared the air over the controversy. We should rather focus on matters that are important for the people of Odisha.”
