In the midst of the ongoing discussions within the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) regarding leadership and organizational restructuring, senior leader Raghunandan Das paid a visit to Naveen Niwas, the official residence of BJD president Naveen Patnaik. His visit sparked curiosity among political observers and party workers alike, fuelling speculation about a potential return to active politics.

However, Das promptly addressed the media to clarify his position. Speaking to reporters, Raghunandan Das stated that his visit to Naveen Niwas was purely personal and not politically motivated.

“I came here due to personal reasons,” he said, firmly dismissing any speculation of his re-entry into active politics owing to health reasons adding, “I have not been active in politics, particularly in Balikuda region, for quite some time.”

In a significant remark, Das hinted at his possible retirement from active politics.

“You may consider that I have taken retirement from political life,” he stated. However, he was quick to reaffirm his unwavering loyalty to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). My allegiance and respect for the BJD will remain intact, Das emphasized.

While his comments put an end to speculation about any immediate political comeback, they also reflect the respect he continues to hold for the party and its leadership.

Political analysts view Raghunandan Das' statements as a subtle way of maintaining space within the party while gracefully stepping back from frontline politics, possibly due to age and health concerns. His decision to stay away from active roles, yet remain loyal to the party, may also influence younger leaders to follow a similar model of dignified disengagement without discord.

“From beginning I have been loyal to Biju Patnaik and subsequently to Naveen Patnaik. There is no rift among senior and youth leaders which was clearly visible during re-election of Naveen Patnaik as party president,” said Das.
