Connection of Indian diaspora with Bharat remains strong: President at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention

President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the strong connection of the Indian diaspora with Bharat at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar, highlighting their contributions and the Viksit Bharat vision for 2047.

Viksit Bharat vision is not just a government initiative, it is a national mission that needs proactive and enthusiastic participation of every Indian including those living abroad, said President Droupadi Murmu while addressing the valedictory session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention at Bhubaneswar on Friday.

In her address, President Droupadi Murmu also lauded the Indian diaspora for their remarkable contributions.

According to the President, the Indian diaspora represents the best of our country and have also carried along values and ethos along with knowledge and skills. The values and ethos have remained the foundation of our civilisation. Be it medicine, arts or entrepreneurship, the Indian diaspora has left its mark and today we have honoured those who have made remarkable contributions at this event.

“The success stories of the Indian diaspora are not a matter of pride for India but they also inspire millions across the world to strive for excellence. The PBD is a platform where ideas converge, collaborations are forged and the bonds between India and its diaspora are strengthened,”said President Droupadi Murmu.

According to the President, though the connection of Indian diaspora with Bharat remains strong. 

“Our nation is marching towards Viksit Bharat, a developed India by 2047 when we will celebrate 100 years of Independence. This vision is not just a government initiative, it is a national mission that needs proactive and enthusiastic participation of every Indian including those living abroad,” said President Droupadi Murmu.

Recognising the crucial role of the Diaspora in nation-building, the Government of India has undertaken several initiatives to support you. Consular services for Non Resident Indians (NRIs) have been simplified. For Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), processes have been digitized and streamlined. 

Initiatives like “Know India Programme” provide avenues for the younger members of our Diaspora to rediscover their Indian roots. I am happy to know that Odisha Government is appointing a Nodal Minister for engaging with Pravasi Bharatiya for projects, investments, etc. I appreciate the step taken by the Odisha Government,”said President.

Speaking on the occasion, EAM S Jaishankar said, “The Indian diaspora has made outstanding contributions to both India and the world in diverse domains based on your immense talent, creativity, dedication, commitment and perseverance. From holding political offices and leading organisations to excelling in various domains and walks of life, they have left an indelible mark on global society. Their extraordinary achievements have made India and Indians proud and have strengthened our relationship with other people and nations. When the world thinks of India, its particular image or relationship is what is shaping our collective brand.”

EAM further said that the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards conferred on select members of the Indian diaspora are a recognition of their achievements. At the same time, they are also a statement of the value that India attaches to its diaspora, he added.
