A group Congress workers led by party leader Giribala Behera scuffled with Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Mayor, Subash Chandra Singh and Commissioner Nikhil Pavan Kalyan while they along with some BJD coporators and workers were laying the foundation stone for the renovation work of Petanala drain in CDA on Saturday.

According to sources, the CMC Mayor, CMC Commissioner, corporators of several wards and BJD workers attended the stone-laying ceremony. When Singh was laying the stone for the renovation work, Congress workers gheroed him for not inviting the Barabati-Cuttack MLA, Mohammed Moquim to the event.

The irate Congress workers questioned why Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim was not invited to the ceremony even when his attempts prompted the CMC to start the renovation work, informed sources adding that the dissatisfied Congress workers also threatened to bring the renovation work to a halt.

Commenting on the allegation leveled by the Congress workers, Singh said, “We are just starting the renovation work. When the work will be completed, everyone will be present.”

However, no comments could be obtained from Moquim in this regard.

In June last year, the Congress MLA staged a protest standing in the Petanala drain alleging the lackadaisical attitude of the State government in renovating the drain despite repeated requests.
