The disciplinary committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of Indian National Congress (INC) served show cause notices to senior leader Chiranjib Biswal and Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim for allegedly giving anti-party comments.

Both the Congress leaders have been issued notices for violating the party discipline and asked the Barabati-Cuttack legislator and Biswal to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.

They were issued showcase notices for their statements against the party affairs at a function at Suchana Bhawan in Bhubaneswar a few weeks ago on May 8.

During the Suchana Bhawan ahead of the Jharsuguda by-poll, Biswal stated that the selection of the candidate for the by-poll was wrong and also questioned the campaign committee headed by the OPCC president.

He further stated that though there were only nine MLAs in the party, 20 leaders aspire to become chief minister, which has affected the unity in the party. On the other hand, both Moquim and Biswal were not on the list of star campaigners of the party.

However, Moquim said that he has not received any notice as of yet. Even as this is the first show cause notice for Chiranjib, Moquim was earlier served show cause notice for voting in favour of President Droupadi Murmu during the Presidential polls.
