Commissionerate police launches crackdown on khati, open boozing in Bhubaneswar; several detained

As part of its safe city drive, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday night conducted simultaneous raids and detained many for consumption of liquor in public places and indulging in ‘Khati’.

To ensure zero tolerance towards open drinking and ‘khati’ in residential areas, the Commissionerate Police has issued a WhatsApp number to provide information on those violating the law. Residents can click pictures or send videos if they find anyone drinking in the open or doing ‘Khati’ in some public/residential place.

The WhatsApp number for the complaint is 7077798111. The identity of the complainant will be kept secret, the police said.

At least six persons were detained and a fine of Rs 6000 was imposed during the simultaneous raids. At least 60 teams of police personnel were part of the raids that were conducted in Laxmi Sagar and Chandrasekharpur area late Sunday night.

This apart, the cops have launched a manhunt to nab 16 miscreants who were doing ‘Khati’ in a playground under Capital police limits. The raids are being conducted under the safe city drive and will continue further, Commissionerate police informed.
