With an aim to provide security to women revellers during Durga puja, the Commissionerate Police on Thursday constituted a team of 40 female cops in the name of ‘Shakti Bahini’. Commissioner of Police S Devdatta Singh flagged off this well-trained team.

If any miscreant tries to harass women pandal hoppers, he won’t go off scot-free. The 40 cops roaming around the mandaps would respond immediately and come to the rescue of the victims. They will also help unite a missing child with his/her parents.

These cops christened as ‘Shakti Bahini’ have been asked to hop from mandaps to mandaps, ensuring the safety of women pandal hoppers. As many as 20 scooters have been provided to them. It means each scooter carries two cops.

“For the puja, elaborate arrangements are in place. Our focus is on three components-safety, security and traffic. To augment this, we have deployed 40 female cops. They will respond quickly and provide help to women in difficulties,” said the Police Commissioner.

“Our special focus is to ensure the safety of women. They will also come to the rescue of missing children. If required, we will increase their number,” said DCP Pinak Mishra.
