The Commissionerate Police has come up with a master plan to deal with the rising menace of cybercrime in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The Commissionerate Police has now decided to rope in ‘public volunteers’ for the challenge at their hands.

These public volunteers are cyber experts from various software companies. Bhubaneswar DCP, Prateek Singh on Monday informed that 25 public volunteers will be engaged in the first phase.

“Apart from creating awareness, we are strengthening our coordination with the police administration of other states. We are now connecting with public volunteers like experts, and working professionals who have experience in the dark web, cyber security, and other portals,” said Singh.

A team will be formed and the focus of the Commissionerate Police will be to make the best use of the knowledge and experience of these experts in tackling cases of cyber crimes.

As the 2024 election is around the corner, the joint team is also likely to keep a tab on misinformation and other issues on social media during the polls, sources said.

The experts will also train police personnel on various aspects of cyber security and cybercrime. Apart from this, the Commissionerate Police has also decided to form a special strategy to check street crimes and nab inter-state criminals.
