A team of the Central Goods and Services Tax (GST) conducted multiple raids at various centres of a private coaching institute in Bhubaneswar on allegations of tax evasion.

As per reports, the raids were conducted at three places associated with Vanik Insititute by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence. It was alleged that the institute has evaded Goods and Services Tax worth lakhs of rupees.

Apart from Bhubaneswar, the GST team also carried out raids in Kolkata in this connection.

Notably, Vanik Institute provides coaching in IAS, OAS, UPSC and other competitive examinations. 

As per sources, the raids at various centres of the private coaching institute started last night and are currently underway. The GST officials examined various documents of the institutes at various centres in a bid to investigate the allegations of tax evasion. Some documents have also been seized. As many as 25 members are part of the Central team which is conducting the raid. It is expected that the raids will continue for some more period of time.

However, the reaction of Central GST officials and the Chief Managing Director of Vanik, Subrat Chhatoi could not be obtained in this regard.
