Panic gripped the residents of Malatipatapur in Puri after a gas cylinder of GAIL India Limited loaded on a truck started leaking on Monday.

According to sources, a truck loaded with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinders was on its way to Puri from Bhubaneswar.

While on their way to the pilgrim town, the truck driver and helper noticed leakage in the cylinder near Malatipatapur over bridge, sources informed.

The driver of the truck immediately informed the matter to the concerned authorities and the Puri Fire Services team. Acting swiftly, teams from GAIL India and Puri Fire Services rushed to the spot and took necessary steps to avoid further leakage of the cylinder.

Sources said the incident took place at around 10.15 am and a major mishap was averted after efforts by the teams that lasted for several hours.
