Consumers pay a hefty amount to relish a variety of dishes at premium restaurants, but they have no idea whether the food served to them is fresh or stale. This was again evident after the enforcement squad of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) conducted a raid at a restaurant at CDA on Tuesday.

The team found that several stale food items were kept at the restaurant and perhaps they would have been sold to customers coming to the restaurant.

CMC Deputy Commissioner said, “The concerned restaurant cum hotel had also violated the waste management system. Some food was stored inside the refrigerator and others were kept open. We suspect that most of the food items are stale and the food inspector will conduct a detailed examination in this regard.”

The senior official said such a violation was detected during a surprise inspection today.

“Appropriate action will be taken after proper examination by the food inspector and other senior officials in the next couple of days. The restaurant-cum-hotel will be penalised for violating solid waste management provisions,” he added.
