Amulya Kumar Sahu, former junior clerk posted at the office of the Executive Engineer, Rural Works Division in Phulbani has been awarded a three-year jail term after his retirement in connection with a bribe case registered against him by the Odisha Vigilance.

As per initial reports, Sahu was chargesheeted by the Vigilance under section 7 P.C Amendment Act, 2018 after he was caught taking bribe in 2020.

Vigilance officials informed that Sahu was nabbed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a roller driver to clear his pending bills. Sahu was nabbed by a team of Phulbani Vigilance team. As the matter was under trial, Sahu took retirement in 2022. The Vigilance Court recently awarded a three-year jail term and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on Sahu.

Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of pension of the ex-junior clerk (retired) Sahu.

"Sahu was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 5000 from the driver to clear his bills. The Vigilance Court imposed a fine and awarded a jail term after examining 11 witnesses in the case," said VV Ramdas, public prosecutor, Phulbani Vigilance Court.
