School student's death sparks tension
Tension prevailed near Uchapada Primary School following the death of a class 1 student after a road project plaque fell on him on Wednesday.
As per initial reports, the mishap occurred during recess hours of the school. Locals blamed the callous attitude of the teachers and school administration for not supervising the students during the break.
“The student had come out of the school and the plaque that was placed outside fell on him. It is the teachers who are to be blamed. How did the student come out of the campus during school hours?” said Alok Sahu, a local resident.
School authorities said that the student went outside as they used to keep a portion of the area closed because of a temple on the premises. A school official said that the student went outside to meet his grandmother who works nearby while others were playing inside the premises.
Devendra Panda, a teacher said, “The student had taken his meal and gone to meet his grandmother outside the campus. The plaque was placed near the spot. We have heard that the student was climbing on the plaque when it fell on him.”
