Tension erupted at Chandibasta village under Town police limits in Nayagarh after four members of a family were allegedly attacked by BJD workers over political enmity on Monday.

As per the allegation, several BJD workers attacked the members of the family, which supports BJP, with sharp weapons leaving four of them critically injured.

The injured were first rushed to Nayagarh hospital and later shifted to Capital Hospital and AIIMS in Bhubaneswar after their health condition worsened, sources informed.

Upon being informed about the incident, the Town Police visited the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.
If sources are to be believed, the violent confrontation may have been the result of ongoing political rivalry and financial disputes between the two parties. Verbal altercations between them had reportedly occurred multiple times before the attack.

“We are supporters of BJP and the attackers are BJD workers. During the elections, the BJD workers had threatened us several times. During the ruling years of BJD, these workers were doing contractor jobs and were involved in corruption. They had also given me life threat,” alleged a complainant.

Sarthak Lenka, a doctor at Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital said, “Some patients have endured head injuries with skull fracture and their condition is critical. We have referred them to Capital hospital and AIIMS in BBSR for better treatment as their injuries are severe. However, the exact reason behind the brawl is unclear; it might come to light soon.”
No responses could be received from either BJD or police over the matter.
