As many as nine persons including four women sustained grievous injuries following a clash between two families over a land dispute at Mudhisahi area under Guamala panchayat in Bhadrak district on Sunday night.

According to sources, the family members of Shayama Sundar Prusti and Krupasindhu Prusti have been at loggerheads over land.

But the dispute intensified last night when the members of the families attacked each other with sharp weapons leaving nine of them critically injured.

All the injured have been admitted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition, sources informed, adding that, both the families have filed separate complaints against each other at Tihidi Police Station.

Acting on the complaint, the police have launched an investigation into the matter, and police force has been deployed in the village as palpable tension over the land dispute continues in the area.

“The two families are at loggerheads over a land dispute for a long time and frequently indulge in fights. The incident took an ugly turn yesterday after members of both families attacked each other with sharp weapons. Two separate complaints have been lodged in this regard,” said Pradip Panda, former sarpanch of Guamala.
