Actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty has landed in hot water with charges being framed against him in connection with a domestic violence charge brought by his ex-wife Varsha Priyadarshini.

Sources said charges were framed against Mohanty and his two associates following his appearance in the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Cuttack.

“Charges have been framed under Sections 506, 509, 34 and 498A of the IPC. Now that his bail has been recalled, the next course of action will be as per proceedings,” said Mohanty’s advocate.

As per reports, Mohanty’s former wife had filed a complaint at Purighat Police Station on December 19, 2020, alleging that the actor and his two friends –Sujit Dalei and Khageswar Prasad Sahu --locked her up in a room in his house at Cuttack’s Nandi Sahi and tortured her mentally and physically.

Police had registered a case based on her complaint and submitted a charge sheet against the actor.

Dismissing the allegations as false, Mohanty had filed a discharge petition which was dismissed by the JMFC court on May 7. The court had also directed to frame a charge against the actor.
