Centre revises wheat-rice ratio for ration card holders in 9 states including Odisha

The ration card holders in Odisha will now get wheat along with rice as the Centre has revised wheat-rice ratio and increased the allocation of wheat by 35 LMT.

The allocation of rice and wheat under NFSA/PMGKAY has been revised for 9 states – Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. A letter in this regard has been sent to the officials of all the nine states by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

The Centre has stated that there would be no change in cost-sharing on account of such distribution including food subsidy, intra-state transportation and dealer’s margin. The ration card holders in Odisha will not get wheat quota from the month of October.

Earlier, the Odisha Food and Consumer Welfare Minister in the month of August had informed that the state government had written to the Centre to provide wheat against 20 percent of the rice quota. Such a demand was placed after considering the wheat demand by the people.
