Centenarian freedom fighter Sulakhyana Mohapatra passes away in Puri

Renowned freedom fighter Sulakhyana Mohapatra passed away on Saturday evening.

She breathed her last at her residence near Gundicha Temple in Puri due to old-aged related ailments. She was 102.

Sulakhyana took part in the freedom movement with her husband Harihara Mohapatra. She met Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba when the couple was on a visit to Beraboi in Delanga and donated all her gold jewellery to extend her support to the freedom movement. Sulakhyana had requested Gandhi to sell all her jewellery to collect funds for the freedom movement. 

As per the order of eminent freedom fighter Rama Devi, Sulakhyana visited several villages and taught people how to run spinning wheel (Charkha) to be self reliant and support the freedom movement.
