CBI arrests Rourkela railway station parcel clerk while taking Rs 7,200 bribe
A railway parcel clerk at Rourkela station was caught red-handed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7,200 on Thursday evening. The accused, identified as Rajeev Ranjan Yadav, was reportedly demanding a bribe from a customer for processing the parceling of a generator.
Sources said that the official had already collected around Rs 13,000 for the consignment but further sought illicit payment to clear the paperwork.
Acting on a complaint, a CBI team laid a trap and apprehended Yadav at the station premises while he was receiving the bribe. He was immediately taken into custody, and the tainted money was seized from his possession.
According to sources, four teams of CBI are searching the properties and office of Yadav and questioning him since last evening. It is learnt that the central investigating agency will take him to Bhubaneswar for further investigation.
Officials confirmed that searches are underway, and further investigation has been initiated into the matter.
