In a tragic incident, a cattle herder was shot dead allegedly by a maize farmer at Brahmanigaon village under Khariguda police station in Kandhamal district on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Madi Padra.  The accused Akash Padra has been arrested by police.

As per reports, Madi’s cattle allegedly damaged the maize farm of Akash. Irate over this, Akash subsequently fired at Madi with a countrymade gun.

When Madi didn’t return home till late in the evening, his family members made a fanatic search. Later, they found his blood-soaked body lying in the farm.

After receiving a complaint from the family members, Brahmanigaon police arrested Akash after a preliminary investigation. Further probe in connection with the incident is currently underway.

“The crops have not been damaged at all. My father and the cattle were far away from the farm. However, the owner of the farm shot my father without any fault,” alleged deceased Madi’s son Dharmendra Padra.
