Hospital is a place of hope for millions of people suffering from diseases. But what if a minor negligence as far as administrative issues takes the life of a patient? Such a shocking incident has been reported from Nilagiri sub-divisional hospital in Balasore.

It is alleged that a patient fell to death after his leg got entangled in a one of a cable wire lying in an haphazard manner near a toilet at the hospital owing to some construction work. The deceased patient has been identified as Karan Singh of Ambajhar village.

Karan was admitted to the hospital some five days back after he complained of some illness. He was recovering and was likely to be discharged soon. Today, he was going to washroom in another ward as the existing toilet at his own ward not fit for use when the incident occurred.

Buduni Singh, wife of the deceased said, “My husband was undergoing treatment. He fell down and died.”

Sk Jamir Bax, an eye-witness said, “The patient died after falling down after his leg got trapped in cable wires laid in haphazard manner.”

Sarojini Pradhan, Nilagiri ADMO said, “Why the patient came and what exact happened will be investigated. The work is going on and the contractor was earlier instructed to clear the cables and he was also warned.”
