A cab driver, Sankarshan Das, affiliated to an online taxi aggregator was allegedly kidnapped from Patrapada in Bhubaneswar on Friday night.
Das was allegedly kidnapped at around 8 pm last night by some unknown miscreants in a car from outside his home at Krishna Vihar area in Patrapada.
As per reports, the kidnappers demanded Rs 10 lakh ransom money from the victim’s wife to release her husband. They even allegedly beat Das over a video call with his wife to confirm that they had actually kidnapped him.
Das’ wife paid Rs 2 lakh to the kidnappers after they threatened to kill him if she did not pay the ransom.
A complaint was filed at Khandagiri police station last night following which the police have launched a probe in this connection.
“The kidnappers have thrashed him severely. He was bleeding profusely. They threatened to kill him. So I paid them Rs 2 lakh online and urged them to release my husband,” said Das’ wife.
“They are roaming with my husband in a car and video calling from the car itself. They have been demanding to pay Rs 8 lakh more. But I do not have enough money with me. Hope the police get the kidnappers soon and rescue my husband safely,” she said.
