As per the VSSUT notice, all the students have been instructed to wear Indian traditional/ authentic dresses for the event. Moreover, western and short dresses have been strictly forbidden on the university campus during these days, the notice read.

The notice further stated that those not found in Indian traditional/ authentic dresses will be sent back from the main gate and action deemed fit will be taken by the university.

VSSUT vice-chancellor Prof. Bansidhar Majhi on Thursday informed, “The main objective is to promote Indian dresses during the events of the varsity to showcase our culture. This will add to the value of education, culture and event.”

Whether the ban is not a restriction on individual freedom, Majhi said, “We have asked all boys and girls students to use traditional clothes by which we can add value of cultural fest. Earlier, during our convocation, we had also used traditional attire. NEP also states to include and promote culture and the annual event is a big event where we can promote it.”
