Brutal assault in Ganjam: Youth blinded with chili powder, hacked with sharp weapons

In a shocking incident, a youth was critically injured after being attacked with chili powder and sharp weapons by unidentified miscreants near the Medical Chhak area of Bhatakumarada under Purushottampur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Arian Behera, a local resident. 

According to sources, the assailants first threw chili powder into his eyes, blinding him, and then launched a brutal assault with sharp-edged weapons. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this stage.

Behera, who sustained severe injuries in the attack, was initially rushed to Bhatakumarada Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.

Soon after receiving information, Purushottampur police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the attackers.

Meanwhile, the incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents demanding immediate action and heightened security in the area. Police have assured that the culprits will be brought to book soon.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause and background of the assault.
