At least six persons including five children were injured after a house in Bimala village under Kalahandi’s Jayapatna block collapsed due to incessant rain in the area on Wednesday.

As per reports, the children were playing near the house when it collapsed on them in the morning.

Following the mishap, the injured were rushed to Jayapatna Hospital for treatment. One injured child from them was later shifted to Bhawanipatna Hospital after he turned critical.

In Rayagada, heavy rain led to the collapse of an approach road to a bridge over Nagabali River near a Shiva Temple at Kalyansinghpur.

The road collapse resulted in a disruption of communication through the bridge.

As per the IMD report, Rayagada district received 447mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours affecting normalcy in the district to a great extent.

Major rivers in the district like Bansadhara, Nagabali, Kalyani, and Jhanjabati are in spate keeping the district administration on the toes.

Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Satyabrata Sahu on Wednesday reviewed the situation of affected districts and asked collectors to remain alert.

According to the SRC’s office, the State has received an average rainfall of 83.8 mm during the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall of 390.6 mm has been recorded in Boudh.
