Bomb hurled at ex-Mayor’s car in Berhampur over suspected political enmity

Former Mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Shiv Shankar Das had a close shave as some unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb at his car on Friday night.

The incident occurred around 10 pm near Bada Sahi under Gosaninuagaon police limits when Das was returning home. The front portion of the vehicle was damaged in the attack.

Though the reason behind the bomb attack is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected to be the fallout of political enmity.

Upon being informed, Town police SDPO Rajeeb Lochan Panda, Gosaninuagaon police-in-charge Smruti Prava Pradhan and town police-in-charge Suresh Tripathi reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.

Das has lodged a complaint about the incident at Gosaninuagaon police station.

Notably, some miscreants had launched this kind of attack on Das earlier too.

“My son was ill. I was returning home after his treatment in a private clinic last night. However, some miscreants hurled a bomb at my car near Bada Sahi and fled from the spot. As I have been involved in political activities for some days now, some people might have attacked me out of jealousy,” said Das.

However, no reaction could be obtained from the police in this regard.
