Jarapada police arrested one person on Sunday in connection with the recovery of the body of a youth with his tied hands and legs from a pond at Motanga village in Dhenkanal district. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Sanjil Pradhan who hails from Jambujodi village under Kaniha police station. Pradhan has been produced before the court. 

Another accused in connection with the case is reportedly absconding. A motorcycle used in the murder has been seized by the police.

As per police sources, the youth, identified as Bikash Behera, was murdered over a love-related matter.

Angul Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ramakant Mahalik said that an effort is underway to nab the other accused involved in the murder case.

“The deceased had a relationship with the niece of one of the accused. They hatched a conspiracy against the deceased. Subsequently, they kidnapped him as per the plan and murdered him,” said Mahalik.

“We have apprehended one accused in connection with the murder case so far. We have also seized the rope, stones, and a motorcycle used for committing the murder,” he added.
