Body of Anganwadi worker found hanging in Odisha, murder alleged

The body of an Anganwadi worker was found hanging in the Anganwadi centre at Maharajpur under Balasore’s Khantapada Police limits on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Prajyna Parimita Das.

As per reports, Das went to the Anganwadi centre this morning as usual. However, after the classes got over and everybody went home, Das was found hanging from a ceiling fan.

Her husband, Bismit Ranjan Das took her to the Khantapada hospital but doctors pronounced her dead.

Das’ parents alleged that Bismit is an alcoholic; he and his parents used to torture her and fight with her all the time.

“There was no reason for her to commit suicide. My daughter was a strong girl. Her husband is an alcoholic and her mother-in-law is a wicked woman. They have killed my daughter,” alleged the mother of the deceased, Saraswati Das.

Father of the deceased, Bidyadhara Das said, “My daughter had a love-marriage. However, my son-in-law turned out to be an alcoholic and his family never liked my daughter. They have either killed my daughter before hanging her body or she has hanged herself because of them. In either case, her in-laws and husband are the perpetrators. And they should be tried for that.”

The police reached the spot after receiving information about the death and launched a probe by detaining Bismit and his mother.
