Body cams on officials to keep watch on unruly visitors at Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Stations

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has implemented body cameras at police stations to monitor unruly visitors.

Officer at reception desk wears body cameras

The Bhubaneswar Cuttack Commissionerate Police, which drew flak for the Bharatpur assault case, has come up with a new idea to crack down on troublesome visitors at police stations.

From now onwards, the officers at the reception desks at police stations under the Commissionerate Police will wear body cameras (Body Cam).

Taking note of the cases of some unruly visitors who are creating a ruckus inside police stations, the Commissionerate Police has launched its body cam plan at the Kharavelanagar Police Station. Additional Police Commissioner Umashankar Das on Sunday visited the said police station to see for himself the effectiveness of the plan.

As per sources, once the panic button on the camera is pressed, the entire act will be recorded. The Commissioner and the DCP can instantly access the recorded video, enabling them to have a watch on not only the visitors but also on cops.

From the preparations, it seems the Commissionerate Police doesn’t wish to take any chance ahead of the DGP conference in Bhubaneswar.

Notably, in the recent past, Bharatpur and Khandagiri police stations were at the centre of discussions. While Bharatpur Police Station grabbed attention for the alleged custodial torture of an Army major and his fiancée, a woman in an inebriated state created a ruckus at Khandagiri Police Station.
