Complainant Madan Nayak with Das' counsel
Allegations of assault on vegetable vendor Madan Nayak in Biraja Haat of Jajpur district led to the arrest of Bhaba Prakash, the brother of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pranab Prakash Das aka Bobby Das. However, the complainant Nayak took a U-turn on Saturday.
Initially, Madan claimed that Bhaba aka Lala, had assaulted him, threatened him, and extorted money from him. On the contrary, Madan has retracted these claims, stating today that Lala did not commit any such acts and that his original police report was a slip-up from his side. He had mistakenly lodged the FIR with the local police.
Following this reversal, there is speculation of pressure on the vegetable vendor to withdraw the case against Lala. This suspicion arises as Madan, accompanied by Lala’s lawyer, filed for case withdrawal.
“I reached the Haat late and do not know what had happened. My vegetables were not thrown by anyone. I am an uneducated person and had lodged an FIR against Babu (Bhaba Prakash) by mistake. I withdrew the FIR today,” Madan said to mediapersons.
“My son and my wife scolded me and advised me not to indulge in such unfair activities. I went to Bobby Babu earlier in the morning and begged apology,” the complainant stated.
Worth mentioning, Madan arrived at both the police station and a Judge’s residential office in a vehicle belonging to a local political leader, adding fuel to ongoing discussions.
Earlier yesterday, Madan had alleged that Bhaba Prakash along with his supporters came to him and asked to remove his make-shift shop. Later, they threw his produce and forcibly took away around Rs 12,000 and a handwritten note from his pocket.
Even to the extent, around 150 persons had intercepted him and manhandled him.
