A readymade garment store in Nayagarh town was reduced to ashes after it caught fire in the wee hours of Thursday.
As per reports, garments worth more than Rs 1 crore were gutted in the blaze.
Locals saw smoke coming out of the shop located on the first floor of a market complex and informed the fire department who rushed to the spot.
The magnitude of the blaze was such that four fire-fighting units were pressed into action who brought the fire under control after four hours of struggle on Thursday morning.
“I went home after shutting the shop at 10 pm last night. I received a call at around 3 am about the fire and I rushed to the spot. Upon reaching there, I saw smoke coming out of my shop. I opened the shutter and found fire inside. It is probably due to a short circuit,” said shop owner Vikash Sharma.
While it is suspected that the fire might have been caused due to short circuit, the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. The fire officer said the matter is under investigation.
