National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Baijayant Panda visited Boudh district on Sunday and kick-started a 'Swachhata Abhiyan' (cleanliness drive) at temples and shrines.

The cleanliness drive on the temple premises in different states is being carried out following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for a week-long campaign ahead of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ in the Ram Temple on January 22.

The BJP leader after reaching Maul Singha in a helicopter took part in the cleanliness drive which was undertaken on the Mahanadi Alati ghat and Chandrachud temple premises. The cleanliness drive was carried on for an hour at both places.
BJP’s district unit president Bipra Charan Mohanty and BJP Yuva Morcha(district unit) president Atal Pradhan were among scores of party workers present.

Besides, the BJP Vice President extended invites to people to attend the 'Pran Pratishtha’ of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya on January 22. He urged people to light up five earthen lamps outside each house and recite Hanuman Chalisa.

Speaking to the media, the BJP stalwart said, “A lot of work has been done under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the country as far as 'Swachhata’ (cleanliness) is concerned. That apart, multiple efforts have been initiated to ensure that people adopt 'Swachhata' and be involved in it. From today till January 22, this drive will go on.”

“Lakhs of brothers and sisters have got together for the cleanliness drives on the premises of temples and holy places across the country.  Scores of our local brothers and sisters carried out cleanliness drives in Boudh for over an hour. We appeal to all to light at least five earthen lamps outside their homes and recite Hanuman Chalisa or other mantras on the day of Pran Pratishstha of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, because it would be a historic moment for all of us. There is no politics in it," Baijayant Panda said.

Temple priest Pradip Bisi said, “The BJP leader had darshan of Lord Mahadev and visited Alati Ghat. He along with party workers and local people cleaned the temple premises and Alati Ghat. We are happy to see the leader himself cleaning the temple premises."
