Many local leaders, reportedly from BJD & Congress in Ganjam’s Polasara Assembly Constituency joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a ‘mishrana parba’ organised by the saffron party.

The 'mishrana parba' was held at Maa Sankulai shrine in Buguda.

As per reports, the leaders who joined the BJP included former zilla parishad members, former Sarpanches, and samiti members of seven panchayats.

“These people have joined the BJP after getting fed up with the corruption and harassment by local BJD MLA, Srikant Sahu. We welcome them to BJP and I think this will bolster our organisation in Polasara,” said Gokulananda Mallick, BJP’s Ghumusara organisational district president.

However, the BJD refuted reports of party cadres joining the BJP. Speaking to reporters, president of BJD's Buguda unit, Madangopal Dora said, “No BJD members have joined the BJP. The people who went to the ‘Misrhana Parba’ are all ousted from the party earlier. Everything will be clear on May 28 at a party meeting.”

“Whoever has gone there won’t have any impact on the BJD,” he added.
