Alleging massive corruption in implementing the Smart City project, the Odisha unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dumped a truckload of garbage in front of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office on Tuesday.

As per reports, the BJP members not only alleged corruption but also held the civic body responsible for the Gadakana dumping yard dispute.

“This is their rule... The BMC had earlier taught us that waste and garbage will be dumped on the person or organisation who does not keep their surroundings clean. BMC has erred here by not cleaning up Bhubaneswar, that is why we have dumped garbage in front of its office,” said BJP spokesperson, Dilip Mohanty.

Mohanty further said, "This is only a reaction to the pile of garbage the BMC has kept in the city. The Odisha government officials are pocketing crores of rupees sent by the Modi government under the Smart City project. But the city has been turned into a dumping yard with foul smell of garbage everywhere."

“Speaking about the dumping yards and waste management system in Bhubaneswar, Mohanty further said, “BMC Commissioner is a liar. Even during the dengue, when the BMC failed to curb the mosquito menace, he threatened the residents of Bhubaneswar to collect fines from them,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the BMC had taken a bold action in July this year by dumping a tractor-load of trash in front of a hotel near Kalpana Square in Odisha capital for allegedly flouting sanitation norms.
