Demanding justice for a rape survivor, hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers led by the party’s Nayagarh Assembly constituency candidate Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh gheraoed the Odagaon Police Station on Friday.

The agitating workers had a scuffle with the policemen when the former tried to force their way into the police station.

As per reports, a case of rape has been registered against the husband of a sarpanch of a village under Odagaon Police limits. It is alleged that the police are yet to take action against him.

Protesting against the callousness of the police and demanding justice for the rape survivor, hundreds of BJP workers led by Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh staged a roadblock and then marched towards the Odagaon Police Station. The agitating workers gheraoed the police station and the scene turned ugly when they tried to enter the police station, leading to a scuffle with the police.

“This is police negligence. Why she is not getting justice? Is it Jungle Raj here? This fight is for our mothers’ prestige, dignity and self-respect. This is why we have gheraoed the police station,” said Pratyusha.

However, Sarankul Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sudhakar Sahu termed the allegations as baseless.
“Their allegations are baseless. The police are investigating the case fairly,” said Sahu.
