A war of words broke out between the BJP and BJD on Saturday over notices being served to senior IPS officers Ashish Singh and DS Kutey by the Home Department with the BJP terming the action as justified and BJD terming the allegations as baseless.

The Investigation against senior IPS officers Ashish Singh and DS Kutey, who were allegedly acting as BJD campaigners during the general elections 2024, is underway and soon action will be taken against them, said BJP MLA Ashok Mohanty on Saturday.

“These two officers were not only campaigning for the BJD but also managing the party’s campaign. Despite being government officers, they at the behest of Pandian were influencing the elections. That was a stained episode in the history of democracy. Any officer as he may be, he should maintain distance from politics. If they want to join politics, they should resign from their respective jobs,” said Ashok Mohanty, BJP MLA.

“The government has taken action against not only those two officers. Information is being collected against those who were involved in similar activities. Soon, they will also be taken to task. The action against Ashish Singh and DS Kutey is justifiable. Those government officers who are involving themselves in political activities by breaking service rule should remain away from such activities in the coming days. Or else, the government is going to act tough against them,” he added.

Responding to Ashok Mohanty’s statements, BJD leader Ganeswar Behera said, “I am in BJD and I had never seen them working for me. The allegations should be investigated. It is advisable to give statements after the investigation. Before the investigation, anything being said is cheap and I shouldn’t comment on cheap talks.”
