Opposition BJD on Sunday targeted Odisha government over deteriorating the law and order situation in the State.

BJD leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar rapped the Mohan Majhi government by alleging that crimes against women have been increasing after the formation of the new government.

Lekhashree lambasted the BJP government over the rape and murder of the tribal minor girl in Remuna.

“After the formation of the new government, crimes against women have been increasing. However, the government has taken no steps to give protection to the women so far. The government should wake up from its deep slumber and take steps for stern actions against the culprits through Fast Track Courts. The family members of the victim should be provided immediate compensation of Rs 10 lakh,” said Samantsinghar.

In response, BJP hit back by saying that the matter is a sensitive issue and BJD is politicizing it instead of sympathizing with the family members of the victim.

“Though BJD has so many faults, they are indicating fingers to others. The woman leader of BJD should sympathize with the family members of the victim rather than politicizing over the matter,” said Remuna MLA Gobinda Das.

Earlier a day before, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik had said that law and order situation has worsened in the State after the new BJP government took over.
