The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday targeted the Centre over the hike in the price of domestic cooking gas by Rs 50 per cylinder.

Addressing a press conference, BJD leader and Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik said, “Even a Rs 50 hike in cooking gas price affects the poor in a big way. And I am yet to see any reaction from the Odisha BJP in this connection.”

“We have been supporting the Centre for its policies which are in the interest of the Nation. However, we cannot ignore the issues that affect the common man. So, we will definitely raise our voice over cooking gas price hike,” he added.

Responding to Patnaik, BJP’s Mohan Majhi said, “LPG and fuel prices are determined on the basis of international prices because those things are imported. And the recent price hike of the LPG is a reflection of the same.”

Majhi also went on to take a jibe at Patnaik and said, “Patnaik Babu has been raising his voice against the State government because of its failure in ensuring development. This rant against the Centre is only temporary. His real political affiliation will be revealed in a few months.”

As per the revised price, a domestic LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 1103 in the national capital.

Similarly, 19 kg Commercial LPG cylinder price has been increased by Rs 350.50. With this increase, a 19 kg commercial cylinder will now cost Rs 2119.50 in Delhi.
