BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik discharged from Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital after successful cervical arthroplasty surgery, with plans to stay for further observation. Naveen Patnaik had been admitted for a planned surgical procedure and responded well to the treatment. The BJD chief had left on June 20 for Mumbai.

Naveen Patnaik, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Odisha, was discharged from Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Monday after undergoing successful cervical arthroplasty.

Patnaik had been admitted for the surgical treatment of cervical arthritis and will stay in Mumbai for a few more days for further medical observation.

According to sources, the former Odisha CM was discharged today from the private health facility in Mumbai after undergoing surgery for cervical arthritis. The procedure, known as cervical arthroplasty, was deemed successful by the attending medical team.

Naveen Patnaik had been admitted for a planned surgical procedure and responded well to the treatment. Doctors have advised him to remain in Mumbai for a few more days for post-operative care and medical observation, Patnaik’s political secretary Santrupt Mishra said.

The health update brings relief to well-wishers and the public in Odisha, where the former Chief Minister’s well-being is a matter of deep concern. Patnaik is expected to return to Bhubaneswar once his doctors give the green signal.

No comments were received from the BJD supremo or doctors of the health facility.

Worth mentioning, the BJD chief had left on June 20 for Mumbai, where he was scheduled to undergo surgery for cervical arthritis after two days on June 22.

A large number of senior BJD leaders and party workers had gathered at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar to see him off.

“Jai Jagannath. As advised by the medical experts, I would be undergoing a procedure for cervical arthritis on the 22nd of this month at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. My personal doctor Dr. Ramakant Panda, is coordinating this in Mumbai. With blessings of Lord Jagannatha and good wishes of my brothers and sisters of Odisha, looking forward to returning soon to continue to serve all of you,” expressing optimism, Naveen Patnaik had previously posted on his personal X handle.
