Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Asit Patnaik found himself in a soup after a police complaint against him was lodged for allegedly celebrating his birthday on a government property in Bhadrak.
He is the son of former Odisha Minister Jugal Patnaik.
As per reports, a grand event for Asit's birthday was organised at the government RMC Market Complex in Bhadrak town on Tuesday evening. The supporters of Asit reportedly burst firecrackers with DJ music and held a bike rally to celebrate the day.
However, following the celebration, Bhadrak sub-collector Manoj Patra ordered an inquiry into the incident. He observed that political events should not be held at all in government places without permission.
The sub-collector directed the Puruna Bazar Police IIC to conduct an inquiry and take strict action in this regard.
“An FIR has been lodged on the basis of a complaint from the sub-collector,” said the IIC.
Asit, on the other hand, said that he did not know anything about the permission. He went there because he was invited.
The sub-collector was not available for comments in this regard.
