Two days after Chief Minister Mohan Majhi performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the nation’s first Silicon Carbide manufacturing facility at the EMC Park, Infovalley in Bhubaneswar; the politics of claiming credit for the success of developing the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in the state have intensified.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony of the Silicon Carbide manufacturing facility, which will be set up by RIR Power Electronics Ltd., a leader in India’s semiconductor power electronics technology, BJD leaders uploaded posts on their party’s role in the success of semiconductor infrastructure in Odisha on their X handles.

On Monday, the party convened a press conference where it claimed that credit should go to none but former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the success of building infrastructure for semiconductor manufacturing in Odisha. It also alleged that the BJP is trying to take credit by cutting ribbons.

“It was our tireless efforts in the past 24 years for which Infovalley I and Infovalley II could be set up. Because of this, giants like IBM, Deloitte and Cognizant could come to Odisha. Naveen Patnaik has never told anyone nor has he come before media to blow his own trumpet,” said BJD MLA Dibya Shankar Mishra while addressing the press conference.

Responding to the claim of BJD, BJP state president Manmohan Samal asked how the BJD government couldn’t do it despite enjoying people’s blessings for 24 years.

“They could have done this during their long tenure. They had received Rs 7 lakh crore. There was a lack of action. Then people opposed those who were coming. Now, efforts are being made to make it happen on the same day. It is obvious that the party in power will take the credit,” said Samal.
