A dog is man’s best friend as it shares a lovely bond that cannot be described in words. A dog ‘Sheru’ from Odisha has now won hearts of millions of people with its acting that won him the jury award in the National Road Safety Short Film Festival 2023. Sheru won a cash prize of Rs 15,000 for acting in the Odia short film titled ‘Biswasta Sathi’.

The film based on the importance of road safety and particularly the importance of the use of helmet also won the best film in Odia category. Directed by Amrutanshu Mohapatra from Balasore, Biswasta Sathi film participated in the film festival. Both Sheru and his owner Swatika Padhi acted in the film.

“We wanted to showcase that helmet is important for our safety just like a dog who is a true companion in life. If a dog can understand the importance of wearing helmet why can’t we as a human,” said Mohapatra.

Sheru’s owner Swatika said, “Sheru normally thinks about me and shows his urge towards protecting me. The shooting was tough but Sheru did it naturally. Sheru gets depressed whenever I step out of home.”

In the movie, Sheru is seen running after its owner who forgets to carry a helmet. The film won a cash award of Rs 1 lakh in Odia film category.

As per official sources, a total of 247 entries were received in 7 languages from 8 states for the National Road Safety Film Festival 2023.
