“I urge citizens to avoid eating chickens for some days as some might import chickens from outside. We are keeping surveillance so that action can be taken if any symptoms are detected,” said Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das.

In its tweet, BMC has also urged traders to contact veterinary officers and ward offices if they detect any illness among their poultry. Besides, while handling, the traders have been advised to maintain hygiene and wear masks.

Health Expert, Srikant Dhar said, “Earlier also bird flu was detected but there is less probability of detection of cases in humans. However, those handling chickens should take precautions by wearing masks and maintaining hygiene. There is no need to panic.”

According to Dhar, if any chicken or egg is boiled properly, there is no chance of getting infected.
