A bird flu scare has gripped Delang in the Puri district of Odisha as reports emerged of unusual poultry deaths in the area. Suspicions are growing over a possible outbreak of avian influenza in several poultry farms.
Over 3,000 Chickens Dead!
Local sources alleged that more than 3,000 chickens have died in various poultry farms over the past few days. To ascertain the cause, authorities have collected samples of chicken droppings and blood for laboratory testing, informed sources.
Rapid Response Team Constituted
In response to the situation, the district administration has formed a three-member Rapid Response Team to monitor and control any possible spread of the infection. Officials are keeping a close watch on affected areas and have urged poultry farm owners to maintain strict biosecurity measures.
Bird flu scare in January 2025
A similar bird flu scare was witnessed in the Puri district in January 2025. The suspected flu was reported from the Krushnaprasad block, where thousands of chickens succumbed to a suspected outbreak of avian influenza.
