At a time when bird flu is spreading its tentacles far and wide across the State, five poultry farmers have been placed under quarantine after death of chickens at their farms at Derabisi area in Kendrapara.
According to sources, Health department officials have collected samples of the farmers and directed them to be in home quarantine.
Moreover, the Health Department has directed all other poultry farmers to remain in home isolation if poultry in their farms are found dead or dying.
Upon receiving news of bird flu, the administration was swift in taking preventative measures. Over the past two days, culling of the poultry has been going on in order to stop the spread.
In areas like Ender, Balia, and Narsinghpur, where the mass poultry deaths were reported, the farm owners have been put in home quarantine and their swab samples have been sent for testing as they were in close contact with the infected poultry.
Over the last twelve days, bird flu has been spreading across the state. Initially, it was seen in Puri and Pipili areas of Odisha and later it was confirmed in the Kendrapara district.
In Kendrapara, the Health Department has instructed culling of poultry in a five-kilometre radius from which infected poultry was found, and it has also instructed residents not to consume eggs.
The neighbouring districts have also been warned against the smuggling of chickens from the infected areas.
