Swinging into action, the Saheed Nagar police on Thursday arrested three persons for chasing, hurling abuses and threatening a lady Sub-Inspector with a sword while she was returning home in a car after night duty.

Police have also seized the Innova used in the crime, reports said. All the three accused are drivers by profession. Strict action will be taken against them as per law for attacking a policewoman, said Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh.

In her complaint, Subhashree Nayak, SI of Mahila PS, said that the incident occurred on January 2 at around 1:30 am when she was returning home after duty. The accused, believed to be in a drunken state, approached her car in an SUV near Science Park area.

They hurled abuses, threatened and chased her for no reason. In a bid to save herself, Subhashree sped away and entered into Police Reserve Ground. However, the miscreants followed her and tried to attack her. Fearing for her life, she shouted for help following which a few police personnel rushed to her rescue.

Seeing other police officials, the miscreants fled from the spot, she alleged in her complaint.

Based on her complaint, police accessed CCTV footages and made the arrest. A further probe into the incident is on, police said.
